Butterfly’s Packing list

Backpack: (Find a good quality one that fits you. NOT an area to skimp on. Remember it’s going to be your new home)

CLOTHES:

1 beach dress (you’ll probably buy another or two on the road and you’ll have room)

1 scarf (you’ll want to buy at least two more on the way…we went places with AWESOME scarves)

1 long flowy skirt (perfect. doubles as a dress)

1 capris

2 shorts

1 comfy cotton shorts (these could be wear-out shorts but doubled as something to sleep in)

1 pair running shorts

2 t-shirts

1 basic thin button up sweater (great. I wore this over anything out at night if it was cold)

4 tank tops

2 cute shirts

2 sports bras

2 normal bras

1 bathing suit

8 pairs underwear (I brought five but they’re so small you really have room for more)

3 pairs socks

1 fleece/sweatshirt (I bought mine while traveling from Livada Orphan Care because it was special but generally I would bring your own)

1 rain jacket

1 pair running shoes

1 pair rainbows/chacos

1 nice pair flats (if you want–OR you can buy on road also)

1 fanny pack (only really useful if you want to go running and carry your camera and/or phone…otherwise sling over purse will substitute)

1 sling over purse (Definitely good. I waited to buy mine in Greece but if you have one, I’d bring it)

1 towel (We managed without but would be VERY nice to have. Often hostels don’t have towels or you have to pay for them)

1 pair cheap sunglasses (you’ll probably buy at least one more pair traveling for cheap, too)

1 hat (EXCELLENT for travel days…and to cover up the hair mop)

cheap waterproof watch

eyemask & ear plugs (loved my eye mask and ear plugs…especially when you have a snoring neighbor)

laundry bag (I found a double-sided one, one side clean clothes, one dirty (REI)…awesome)

1 daypack

Daypack: computer, any necessary tickets, sunscreen, ipod, hat, map or book of the city we were in, face-wipes, water-bottle, driver’s license, a second credit card if you have one

Sling over purse: phone, cash and a credit card, passport, camera, chapstick, gum, pen, mini notepad, hand sanitizer

TOILETRIES:

toothbrush

floss

toothpaste (I’d bring a big one…you’ll use all of this, as well)

mini shampoo & conditioner (I would bring a big one of both if you have someone to share the weight with)

facewipes (3 packs- you go through these a lot but they are cheaper in the States)

purell

deodorant

razor (bring multiple heads)

chapstick

minimal makeup

clear makeup bag

sunscreen (The airisol kind is my favorite but twice it exploded in my bag…Would get a big one of the lather-on kind)

hair ties + bobby pins

tweezers

nail clippers/file

mini hair brush

small pack of tissues

lady products

loofa

extra plastic bags (things explode in your bag…nice to have backups)

MEDICINES:

Advil (One bottle is good)

cold medicines (I would bring several travel packages of these, 5 or so)

tylenol pm (Good to have one little bottle)

mini emergency kit  (includes the basics; bandaids, neosporin, etc.)

multi-vitamins (I would definitely bring enough multi-vitamins for every day (your diet often is unbalanced while traveling) and any other you take regularly)

airborne/Emergency (not the best tasting stuff but it forces you to drink water since its easy to get dehydrated fast)

GADGETS:

cell phone & charger

external hardrive

camera (underwater feature would be EXCELLENT)

chords and connectors for comp/camera

headphones (SI)

headlamp

kindle

ipod & charger

sleep sack (Very useful. Sew up a sheet or find one at REI for about $30)

adapter

notebook

several pens

SAFETY:

swiss army knife (found very useful to cut foods on the go. Plastic utensils aren’t always easy to come by)

pepper spray
